Hi! I’m Philip!

I’m a director, producer, actor, voiceover artist, and several other things that I will choose to sum up with the shiny, eye-catching term “interdisciplinary theatre-maker,” working mainly in my hometown of Washington, DC and my schooltown of Chicago, IL. In both places, I maintain a consistent practice of pretending I’m not from the suburbs, even though I actually grew up in Bethesda and went to college in Evanston. I currently live in DC proper, where I’m working at Studio Theatre as their Production & Events Management Fellow, but I’d appreciate it, dear reader, if you could keep my suburban origins a secret nonetheless. I recently graduated from Northwestern University with a BA in Communication, which is a cleverly vague way of saying I completed a major in Theatre, a module in Theatre Management, the full undergraduate acting sequence, and a minor in Legal Studies. I also studied abroad at Prague Film School in their Acting for Film conservatory, and received most of my pre-college training from the DC Theatre Lab.

Some favorite college acting credits include Violet, February House, Big Fish, and various new play workshops like Joan of Arkansas (in collaboration with Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company), This is Government, and Regicide. My artistic work includes directing Julius Caesar, producing the design-forward new play Call Me Eris, and assistant directing Everybody. Outside of Northwestern, I’ve sang in concert events at Arena Stage and the Kennedy Center, and worked in various artistic, administrative, and educational roles at Shakespeare Theatre Company, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, and the DC Theatre Lab. When not working onstage or off, you can probably find me meticulously curating my Letterboxd, or playing Dungeons & Dragons. I’m so flattered that you’re reading this bio right now.
